Institute of Electrical Energy Conversion

Research at the Institute for Electrical Energy Conversion (IEW) focuses on two main areas: Electrical machines and contactless energy transmission.

Both focus on basic research as well as application-oriented system development.
In the field of electrical machines, methods for analytical and numerical modeling as well as for the design of highly efficient electrical machines with very high torque density are developed. Both motors and generators are designed and implemented as prototypes.
In the field of contactless power transmission, highly efficient wireless power and data transmission systems based on the coupling of magnetic and electric fields are modeled, designed, and developed. Both inductive and capacitive data and energy transmission systems are developed at IEW for wireless transmission of energy and data. The power range of the transmission extends from a few mW to several kW.
